Rankings: Weidman Moves Past Velasquez in P-4-P

Despite Rory MacDonald’s big win over Tarec Saffiedine at Fight Night Halifax, the Canadian contender remained at No. 2 in the welterweight division in this week’s rankings update.

There was a huge shakeup in the pound-4-pound rankings, however, even though nobody on the list was in action.

UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman jumped up to No. 4, passing heavyweight king Cain Velasquez. Johny Hendricks moved past Ronda Rousey into the No. 8 spot, while T.J. Dillashaw finally moved ahead of rival Renan Barao into the top 10 four months after his historic win over the Brazilian.

At the bottom of the p-4-p list, Alexander Gustafsson moved up to No. 13 and Dominick Cruz moved up to No. 14, dropping light heavyweight No. 1 contender Daniel Cormier two spots to No. 15.

In perhaps the biggest upset of the UFC's Saturday Doubleheader, Rick Story, fresh off his big win over Gunnar Nelson at Fight Night Stockholm, made his debut in the rankings, taking Nelson’s No. 12 spot and dropping the Icelandic welterweight down two spots to No. 14.

In the featherweight division, Dennis Siver passed Jeremy Stephens to take the No. 10 spot following his decision victory over UFC newcomer Charles Rosa in Sweden. Max Holloway impressed with his first-round stoppage of Akira Corissani. He now has four wins in 2014 and makes his debut in the rankings at No. 15.

In other notable moves, Mark Hunt passed Stipe Miocic into the No. 4 spot at heavyweight. At flyweight, John Lineker moved up to No. 6, passing Ali Bagautinov. Mitch Gagnon makes his debut on the bantamweight rankings at No. 15.
