Cyborg out, Karate Hottie in for Invicta 10

Cris “Cyborg” Santos has been forced out of her main event appearance in Invicta 10, which is scheduled to be streamed on on December 5 exclusively live from the Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas.

Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp explained Invicta FC featherweight champion Santos, who was scheduled to move down in weight and make her bantamweight debut, suffered a full thickness rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament.

Knapp said: "Cris was right on track to make 135lbs. She begged to stay on the card, but we have to consider her future.”

However, Knapp was able to confirm an exciting new main event for the UFC FIGHT PASS exclusive: Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Michelle Waterson, 12-3, will now headline Invicta FC 10 when she faces Brazilian challenger Herica Tiburcio, 8-2.

Knapp added: “We have a young, hungry opponent for Michelle. Herica was itching to get back in there and test herself. Invicta is going to end the year on high note with a ton of momentum for 2015.”

Tiburcio, currently riding a three-fight winning streak, was slated to make her promotional debut at Invicta FC 9, but visa issues forced her off the card. Six of the 22-year-old challenger’s career wins have come via submission and Waterson is looking forward to the challenge.

“The Karate Hottie” said: “She’s a great challenger for me. I’ve never fought someone with this style before, she’s got great takedowns and she can really scramble very fast in there. This is going to be a great match-up for the fans. I’d like to keep it standing if I can, but there’s a chance I can get taken down here and get to show my submissions.”

The “Karate Hottie” added she isn’t concerned about the relative short notice. She said: “I was already in training to help out a couple of teammates out who have fights coming up, so I wasn’t out of shape at all. I was told about this fight earlier this week and I’ve already upped my training. This is actually going to be a full camp, so it’s not really a short notice fight at all.

“The only bad thing is I’m going to miss having a real Thanksgiving dinner. I’m really bummed about that but then I wanted to fight again ASAP so I guess I should be careful what I wish for…”
