Pettis Brothers Fight on Same Card in December

They are one of the most prolific brother teams in mixed martial arts today, and on December 6 in Las Vegas, Anthony and Sergio Pettis will compete on the same card for the first time, with Anthony defending his lightweight title against Gilbert Melendez in the UFC 181 co-main event, and bantamweight Sergio taking on Matt Hobar.

UFC 181 is headlined by the welterweight title rematch between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler.

Milwaukee's Pettis brothers have thrilled fight fans for years, Anthony as a WEC and UFC champion and Sergio as one of the top young fighters in the sport. The two are also inseparable both in and out of the gym, with 21-year-old Sergio listing his fighting strengths on his UFC bio as "Standup, Anthony Pettis' little brother."

“He’s my brother,” Sergio said before his UFC debut in 2013. “People are going to think that by beating me they’re beating him and they’re gonna want to use that to take me out. But Anthony’s my training partner, I live with the guy, I get to see what he does, and I see his mindset for the fights he has. His last fight (against Benson Henderson), I saw his mindset fighting for the belt, and it was just ridiculous how focused he was and how calm he was. He was so confident, and that’s what I’m trying to bring to the table. I’m trying to find that confidence that Anthony has. I’ve got all the tricky moves now; I’ve just got to throw them.”

2-1 in the Octagon, Sergio holds wins over Will Campuzano and Yaotzin Meza, with his only defeat being a January loss to Alex Caceres that earned him a Fight of the Night bonus.

"The Crowbar" Hobar is coming off his first Octagon victory in August, as he decisioned Aaron Phillips.
