Maia, Nelson Meet at UFC 194 in December

Two of the mixed martial arts world’s premier grapplers will collide in Las Vegas on Saturday, December 12, as an intriguing showdown between Demian Maia and Gunnar Nelson has been added to the stacked UFC 194 card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

UFC 194 is headlined by the long-awaited featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor and the middleweight championship fight between Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold.

A member of the UFC roster since 2007, Demian Maia is showing prime form since moving to welterweight in 2012, and he has won six of eight bouts at 170 pounds, including three in a row. Fresh from a Performance of the Night submission of Neil Magny in August, Maia will travel from his native Brazil to take on Iceland’s Nelson, a fellow jiu-jitsu black belt with four Octagon victories by submission, most recently a first-round UFC 189 finish of Brandon Thatch.
