Cruz Returns for Title Fight against Dillashaw

The wait for Dominick Cruz' return to active duty is over, as the former UFC bantamweight champion will look to reclaim the title he never lost in the Octagon when he faces current champ TJ Dillashaw on Sunday, January 17.

UFC President Dana White announced the bout Wednesday evening on FOX Sports 1's UFC Tonight.

The five-round championship bout, which will be held at a site to be determined, will air live on FOX Sports 1.

The king of the 135-pounders since May of 2014, when he upset Renan Barao to win the belt, TJ Dillashaw has continued to look unstoppable, successfully defending his crown with knockouts of Joe Soto in August of 2014 and Barao in their July rematch. In the 30-year-old Cruz, he will be facing a former WEC champion who became the UFC's first bantamweight titleholder in 2010. But after wins over Urijah Faber and Demetrious Johnson, several injuries have limited him to just one bout, a 61-second finish of Takeya Mizugaki in September of 2014. On January 17, a healthy Cruz attempts to take back his title from a champion who has no intention of giving it away.
