Biography

TRAINING: Training for this fight starts with strength and conditioning with Craig Preisendorf in the morning, followed by drilling and alternating days of sparring or grappling in the evening at Elite. Speed training three days a week at Aces Athletics with Dallin Rogers.

When and why did you start training for fighting?
I started in 2007 as a way to challenge myself after an unsatisfying college football career. Soon after, I found my way to Jeremy Horn's Elite Performance and started to learn what the sport is really about.  I've loved it ever since.

What ranks and titles have you held?
Ultimate Combat Heavyweight Champ (2007)

Do you have any heroes?
My Grandfathers, Delmer Scales and Robert O'Connell, and my Father, Tim O'Connell

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC?
This is huge for me, both as the accomplishment of a goal I set many years ago and as an opportunity to represent my family, friends, coaches and training partners on the biggest stage.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn?
I have a Psychology degree from the University of Utah (Go Utes)

What was your job before you started fighting?
In addition to fighting, I am a sports-talk radio host.  I actually interviewed Dana White on my show and asked him for a contract a year ago.  I guess he just took a while to get around to it...
